Nordic and Baltic NGOs discuss the EU’s Green Deal and NCM’s Green Vision 2030  at online symposium, September 17-18, 2024

The Nordic Region is known for a role model regarding to the environmental policies, sustainable practices, and commitment to reducing carbon emissions, while civil society plays a crucial role in shaping and driving sustainability initiatives.

Nordic and Baltic NGOs, policy makers and experts will gather for 2-days online symposium to discuss the EU strategies in the Paris Agreement and European Green Deal agenda, as well as the Nordic Council of Ministers’ 2030 green vision and civil society part in this.

The opening presentations of the symposium on EUs Green deal agenda and climate policy is given by Danish MEP Niels Fuglsang; the role of NGOs in the EU strategies is introduced by By Uffe Hvidkær, Europe Dialogue and NCMs Vision 2030 of a sustainable Baltic Sea region by Hanna Bökmark from NCM. The NGOs role in the Nordic vision 2030 is introduced by Ole Meldgaard, member of NCM’s civil society network Nordic CIV. The official presentations will be followed by group discussions.

On the second day several civil society representatives get a floor to introduce their work in a sustainable transition in the Baltic Sea region, for example we have speakers from Innovation Acceleration institute (FI), Interfolk (DK), Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation (EE); Husavik Acdemic Center (IS); Miljøpunkt Amager (DK).

After the symposium the online Compendium will be prepared.

The event is organised by GreenADeN (www.inai.fi/projects/greenaden) project that works with green skills development in Nordic and Baltic countries.
Project partners are;  Innovation Acceleration Institute, Kemi, Finland; Húsavík Academic Center, Iceland; Peipsi CTC, Estonia, Institute for Civil Society, Interfolk, Denmark.
